Cancer Fighting Superfoods

super foods

It really is true. Food is medicine. Everything Mother Nature provides can be a healing source for all disease but for many, it can be overwhelming. What DO I eat and where do I start. There are so many “diets” out there it’s crazy in my opinion. So where do you start? Even with a Holistic background there is always more to learn but I find keeping it simple keeps it easy!

As a cancer survivor I became more passionate about taking care of my body. I love finding the latest research on how foods can fight cancer and honestly, who wouldn’t be interested in knowing that. There are some great resources like The Truth About Cancer. Trust me, no one wants cancer however, I wouldn’t change the past because it taught me a deeper level of self love and self care.

In a world filled with amazing produce and spices, there are many that fight cancer cells/tumor cells. I’ve chosen these 5 powerhouses to highlight and I think you’ll like what you see!!

Tumeric is royalty in my opinion. This powerful spice originated in India and has been used for thousands of years. What makes this beauty so colorful is it’s main component Curcumin. But why is Tumeric so powerful? It’s properties make it a strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Studies at the National Cancer Institute show that Curcumin may stop the growth of tumor cells in cancer patients by blocking the enzymes needs for cancer cells to grow. THIS IS HUGE!!!

Feel free to shake some tumeric into your cooking. Not only will you absorb the benefits but it adds a delightful flavor to any dish. You can also add it to your favorite smoothie. I love this brand of Tumeric Powder. You can also check out one of my favorite supplements HERE and if you have any health concerns please be sure to check with your doctor before taking any supplements.

This green beauty is the almighty Spirulina!! Where do I start with this one?!! What gives this guy it’s vibrant color is a pigment called Phycocyanin. It is also a powerful antioxidant and anti inflammatory. But how does it fight cancer? Studies show that spirulina targets cancer stem cells and can slow down the progression of breast cancer. Been there done that so I take it every day!! You can add spirulina to a smoothie or juice and take in all the benefits. You can find affordable organic spirulina powder on Amazon.

Mushrooms anyone? Well if you’re like me, I don’t care for mushrooms however, there are powerful immune-boosting benefits to mushrooms and for your convenience they come in a supplement form.

So let’s get down to the nitty gritty. These babies have anti-metastatic and anti-tumor properties. They work in boosting the immune system and blocking enzymes that increases cancer growth. I’m not a doctor but there is research from all over the world showing cancer killing effects of mushrooms. Reishi and Maitake are two of many in this class so if you love mushrooms, serve them up and if you don’t check out my favorite supplement here.

Ahhhhhh the gorgeous blueberry. Just looking at them makes my mouth water! This little superfood is packed with antioxidants. What’s even more exciting is a study at the University of Missouri-Columbia shows that blueberry extract tricks cancer cells and causes cell death. You can read more here.

Blueberries are delish in a salad and in your favorite smoothie and if you’re like me, you can eat them by the handful as a healthy snack.

Say hello to my little friend – Cacao!!!! This is a beast when it comes to your health! Cacao is high in polyphenols which protect against oxidative stress. It also boosts your immune system and seratonin as well as improves cardiovascular health. But how does this beautiful seed fight cancer? Cacao is high in flavonoids which is a plant pigment that can not only slow the growth of cancer cells but can induce cell death in cancer cells. That alone makes it worth consuming!!

Cacao powder and cacao nibs can be added to your favorite smoothie to add that extra punch of protection! Check out my favorite powder here.

These fabulous 5 are my go-to in Cancer prevention but are equally as important in fighting inflammation in the body. They are affordable and worth adding to your daily routine.

You are worth it so jump on the healthy train and take your health to the next level!

Cheers to your best life!

  2. Peggy Beyer

To me, going through food phases is just a part of practicing healthy eating habits.
We used to grow and juice wheatgrass, now I drink bio coffee w/ wheatgrass in it. Also, I did the spirulina powder, dropped that for a variety of mushrooms
    Yum (ha).
Love your posts, look forward to more enlightened reading. Thank you.
