So I am always looking for ways to save a pretty penny. We all have life goals and financial goals that we want to reach in a timely manner, right? Saving money will definitely get us there!
Well I accidentally found this money saving tip when I was trying to establish a good cleaning routine. I happened upon a cleaning company’s Instagram account, and from this Instagram account, I found a way to save myself about $80 per month. That is almost $1000 per year!
Okay, are you ready for it….? *Cue Taylor Swift’s “…Ready For It?” song.
… Just use basic cleaners instead of buying special solutions to mop/clean your home.
That’s it. Sounds simple right? Like duh, Jen, what were you doing before??
Well let me tell you.
Okay so I used to use swiffers for mopping. I liked the wet jet swiffer in particular. You have to replace the cleaner bottle and the mop pads pretty frequently which added up over time.
Just due to the amount of hardwood and laminate floors I had in my previous home, I was using about one bottle and pack of 4-6 mop pads every 3-4 weeks. It typically cost about $15-$20 for the refills.
Now I live in a home with all laminate floors, no carpet. I also live in Arizona, the dustiest state on planet Earth. So I would have had to use those refills in a week or less. Which, in looking at the money aspect of that, that is so not okay! That would be around $80 per month in my current home.
So this cleaning company account showed me how to use bleach, Tide powder laundry detergent, and Dawn dish soap to clean multiple surfaces in my house! I have literally only had to buy one thing of bleach and one small-medium sized powdered tide box 6 months ago and I still have plenty left.
Please keep in mind that you do have to be careful about mixing things with bleach but the company gives you recipes to follow, try not to stray from them so we can avoid creating a mustard gas. Which apparently they’ve heard stories of people accidentally doing! So be careful!
Here is the link to the cleaning company’s bleach PSA and also a Q&A on what recipe to use on what! Do not use bleach, tide, and Dawn dish soap together! These are the three things this company uses, so keep them in stock. I loved using the Dawn Power Wash for steam stains on my shower doors. The cleaning company talks about this in the Q&A!
This money saving hack has saved me A LOT of money. I’m saving around $80 a month by using the cleaning company’s cleaner recipes.
That’s almost $1,000 a year that I’ve been saving!
So check them out and give them a try if you’re trying to save a little extra money!
Stay tuned for more money saving tips. And check out my post on the devices and items I use to get through my weekly reset clean here!
